Father Joseph Cataldo, SJ, an Italian-born priest and missionary who wished to create a Catholic school in the Pacific Northwest for local Native Americans, founded the university. US News and World Report have ranked Gonzaga University one of the top universities in the West for 16 years. The Princeton Review and Forbes Magazine rank this university as one of the nation’s best universities. Gonzaga University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and is a member of the Jesuit Education Network.
